Loss of Use coverage?

Loss of Use coverage?

Did you know that if your home is uninhabitable after a covered claim, you may be entitled to additional benefits under your Loss of Use coverage.

Most home insurance policies on a primary residence in Florida have a coverage called Loss of Use which is commonly listed as Coverage D in your insurance policy.  Most policies has some variation of verbiage that states that:

…if you sustain a covered loss where your home is not fit to live in, the insurance policy will generally cover any necessary increase in living expenses incurred so that your household can maintain its normal standard of living.

The payments made to you by the insurance company will either be for the shortest time period required to repair or replace the damage or, if you’re forced to permanently relocate, the shortest time required for your household to settle elsewhere.

Most insurance policies will also cap the loss of use coverage by a specific dollar amount – which is listed on your declarations page under Coverage D.
